Overview

Schneider Electric falls into the gray area between Smart Grid and Energy Efficiency, with some minor exposure to renewable generation. As one of the leading vendors in the distribution side of the Smart Grid, Schneider has leading market positions in medium voltage and low voltage products. As the Smart Grid moves towards the premise and demand side, Schneider also has a strong footprint in solutions-based products for commercial, industrial and even residential customers. Schneider divides its business units in five groups Power, Energy, Industry, IT and Buildings and reports financials in a similar fashion, with the exception of the combination of Power and Energy into one group. Schneider also made major strategic strides in cleantech innovation sourcing with the formation of Aster Capital, a venture capital fund co-sponsored by Schneider, Alstom and Rhodia. Finally, in 2010, Schneider’s sustainable public outreach program BipBop continued to grow, sponsoring programs like the In-Diya, a LED lighting system for rural India.
